IWC Blog 9 - The Inner Game Of Stress...
The Inner Game of Stress...
'It's not about managing stress, it's about building stability.' Tim Gallwey
Well I have to admit to a certain amount of stress in not getting a blog out on the forum in over a month. But aside from continuing my exploits with the Inner Game of Roofing, there have been some interesting developments with IWC.
Before sharing those with you, I must mention that I do now have my copy of Tim Gallwey's new book, 'The Inner Game of Stress' in case anyone recommends that I should be reading it. Here are some things I've liked from the book so far:
I've heard of R&R, but until now I'd not come across the FOUR R's - Rest, Relaxation, Recreation and Reflection. I like the Four R's. If I really get into them, you may not hear from me until Christmas.
Secondly - I thought this was a wonderful coaching question to ask around a stressful circumstance - 'What do you trust in this situation?' That'll get the train moving again - or at least gain access to some resources that can help...
Oh and there's the Tree of Stability exercise to build foundational stability from recognising your inner resources rather than relying on externals to weather any of life's storms.
My partner, Helen, doesn't like the title. Whenever she's seen the book on the kitchen table, she's had to turn it over so she can't see the 'S' word. I tried offering another perspective a couple of days ago by mentioning the possibility of focussing on the word 'Game' in the title instead. To which she threatened to give me some serious feedback - confirming that sometimes the best thing a coach can do is just shut up.
We had an enquiry last month from a visitor in America who had enjoyed touring our site and wondered if we could help him succeed more in his current job and create a new job that could really bring out the best in him. We thought that we could.
The result is a brand new Online Coaching area on our site. Our first client has taken advantage of a fantastic half price introductory offer as a thankyou for being instrumental in the start-up of this service. And I'm pleased to report that his goals are being achieved. We're extending the half-price introductory offer to our first ten Online Coaching clients so if you'd like to experience coaching from someone with a strong Inner Game background, or if you know someone who could benefit, get in touch with us now!
I have to say that I'm very excited about the potential of online coaching, especially with the ease of communication offered by video-calls, which allow for a far richer experience than phone calls because of the visual feedback. It's just great to be able to be at home in the UK, work with someone who is on the other side of the world and it feels like they're right there in the room with you.

Inner Game of Golf
It was good to be able to catch up with Jon Adler, a performance coach specialising in golf, whom we first met observing one of our courses back in 2004. This was as a result of another enquiry we had recently from a golfer looking for an Inner Game coaching experience who happens to live close to Jon in the Bournemouth UK area - so we were pleased to be able to help get them in touch with eachother. Jon and I talked about the Inner Game and NLP which I found fascinating - I'm sure this will be a great topic to explore further as we had slightly different perspectives to share.
A warm welcome to our recent new forum members Suzy, TennisSal, Sunny and Ann - we're looking forward to hearing your Inner Game insights, experiences and questions. I'm sure you're all curious to find out how soon you're going to be the first one to discover just how easy it is to jot down a quick thought and get the IWC forum ball rolling with a little more momentum!
